Nail Mail and More Christmas Fun!

5 Dec

Sorry for the lack of posting! As I said last time, lots on my mind! I keep putting off posting because I’m waiting for loooots of packages and I keep hoping they’ll arrive. Today I received one from new indie maker, Daily Lacquer! After stalking Ami, I had to have Makoto from the Lovely Moon collection, so I ordered her 😀 Look at the adorable packaging!

packagingWell-wrapped in bubbles and encased in a cute bag with hearts on it ^_^

makoto01And here’s Makoto! A mix of green and pink glitters (hex, bar, square, heart, and moon shapes) in a clear base, Makoto was inspired by Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon! As a girl growing up in the 90s, Sailor Moon was a staple in my tv diet. I now have a desire to get the rest of Maggy’s Lovely Moon collection, they all look super amazing and I can now confirm that the formula is great 😀

One awesome surprise was the fact that Maggy threw in a little mini bottle of an unreleased mix called Tink Pink:

tinkpink01It’s a clear base with pink and silver holo hexes, hearts, and butterflies. Adore! I can’t wait to see my niece’s reaction to it as well 😀 I’m not sure whether this is a part of an upcoming collection, so I’ll be keeping an eye out on the Daily Lacquer Facebook page for updates! Super happy with today’s nail mail 😀

Anyway, I thought I’d also share what I’m wearing on my nails. I’m making an effort to venture out of my comfort zone by wearing reds more (fuelled by Christmas fever), but I had to have the old familiar glitter gradient.

snow01This is two coats of China Glaze With Love with a gradient of Glistening Snow (both of these are from the 2012 Holiday Joy collection), and a top coat of Fairy Dust to finish off and add more sparkle.

snow02

Bit of tip wear there, my bad! I’m sad that you can’t see how sparkly this was, but the weather has been complete butt lately (summer my arse!) so there was no sun to bring out the beautiful holo of Glistening Snow and Fairy Dust.

Anyway, I’ll try to make more of an effort to share more often. I’ll have to get some swatches of my new Daily Lacquers for you!

Love you guys :3

Pst… I got a new job! I’ll be starting in January 😀

Winterlicious Tag and NotD

30 Nov

Ooooh! V tagged me in her Winterlicious post, so I guess I better get onto it.

Like her, I’ll probably talk about spring/summer favourites a bit as well, since we have Christmas in summer here in NZ (I know right? You northerners don’t know what you’re missing!).

Favourite winter nail polish?

Now that’s just cruel. Don’t make me… You know what, I’ll tell the truth. I’m not that big on seasonal trends when it comes to polish. I wear everything all year round!

Favourite winter lip product?

I’m not a glosser, nor a lipstick-fiend like MaSucree. In winter (and all year round), I stick to simple lip balms or a nude lipstick. My favourite lipsticks are Jordana Nude and Natural, and NYX Round Lipstick in Hades. My favourite balms are anything and everything, though at the moment I’ve been hoarding various flavours of the Maybelline Baby Lips balms.

Most worn winter clothing piece?

Leather military-style boots for sure! I bought them my first winter season at Overland, and they’re still going strong ❤ In summer I’d have to say maxi dresses, I could live in maxi dresses! Most comfortable things ever.

Most worn winter accessory?

Definitely scarves. Different scarf every day. In summer I tend not to accessorise too much aside from the necklace I wear every day, and earrings.

Favourite winter scent/candle?

My husband frowns upon candles so I’ll ignore that, and I don’t have specific ‘winter’ or ‘summer’ scents. But around Christmastime I go nuts hoarding Cranberry Joy scented products from the Body Shop.

Favourite winter beverage?

I’m a tea drinker all year round. All the flavours, all of the times.

All-time favourite Christmas movie?

I dunnooooooo. I liked Elf? And Nightmare Before Christmas is a given. Plus I always loved Home Alone and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Favourite Christmas/holiday song?

ALL THE CHRISTMAS SONGS, ALL THE TIME! All of them. Everywhere. Don’t judge me!

Favourite holiday food/treat?

Gosh I feel like I’m being kinda repetitive in my answers, but everything!! Om nom. I love Christmas ham and sparkling grape juice :3

What is your favourite Christmas decoration this year?

Well I love Christmas decorations in general, so this is another “errr…. all the things” moment. But I guess that I bought a really cute clear plastic Christmas tree that has a colour-changing LED inside it, and it’s powered via USB. So it sits on my computer desk and I plug it in at night and feel festive 😀

What is at the top of your wishlist this year?

I would have to go with “nail polish”, “money for nail polish”, and “new clothes for my new job”. Yay!

What are your plans for the holidays this year?

Well the Husband and I always spend Christmas morning with my (very large) family, before heading off for lunch with his immediate family, then an afternoon/evening thing with his extended family. It’s a full-on day (we both have big families with a lot of kids around!), but we’re always stuffed full of amazing food and feeling rather content by the end of it ^_^ Aside from that, I’m hoping to spend a few hours with my little sister and brother before Christmas (they live in another town). And the Husband and I have a trip booked at the beginning of January to visit Wellington, as we’ve never been there 😀 It’s a holiday season I’m 100% looking forward to!

So yay, this was fun. But I don’t wanna leave you with no pictures of nails, so have a picture of the nails I wore to an interview last week 🙂

Free-handed chevrons! I should have used tape but was feeling too twitchy and impatient. Anyway this was China Glaze Dress Me Up, Liquid Leather, and Champagne Kisses. I wanted something neutral but still a bit funky, and this is what I came away with. Ooh, also I thought I’d show you what happens when I have to take photos at night with terrible lighting…

One day I’ll have a good camera and the funds to sort out some decent lighting. One day!

Anyway, I henceforth tag MaSucree and Ami! Get going guys, I wanna see some Winterlicious Tag posts lickity-split!

Love you guys 😀

Haul, Haul, Haul, and NotD

29 Nov

Yaaaaaayyyyy all the things! I have a few separate hauls to share today, and then some nails ^_^ Ready for some photos?

First up is my small haul of Ulta3 polishes. These Australian polishes have only just started showing up in New Zealand, and only at a select few places. I made the effort to go into the city to check out a pharmacy that stocked them, and came away with four 😀

L-R: Blue Marlin ; Blue Glitter ; Red Glitter ; Mojito

I haven’t tried them out yet, but I’m excited about them. I hope the awesome chunky holiday glitters that Ulta3 recently released turn up in NZ stores!

The day after I bought these, I got a surprise in the mail in the form of the two OPI Skyfall polishes I ordered when the Warehouse had them on sale…

L-R: You Only Live Twice ; Goldeneye

And then last night I was able to pick up my share of the group buy of Orly and Nfu.Oh polishes. Super excite!! Here are the ones I got 😀

L-R: Dazzle ; Cut the Cake

L-R: Chantilly Peach ; Essence of Pearl ; Super Natural

L-R: 47 ; 56 ; 61

L-R: 89 ; 125 ; 3

L-R: 80 ; 26

Suuuuper excited to try out the flakies and my first ever proper holo! Plus I am so in love with the bottles ❤

Anyway, so far the only ones of these hauls that I’ve tried are the two from OPI Skyfall. Of course I went for my classic gradient tips :3

Pretty! I was a bit nervous about buying You Only Live Twice because I generally don’t wear reds, but I do like the way this one is slightly magenta, and the pretty shimmer. MaSucree’s suggestion for me paid off :3

So what does everyone think? ^_^

I have another 4 or 5 packages on their way too. Eeeep! I may have gone a little overboard on Etsy and Llarowe…

Teehee!

Winter Green NotD

27 Nov

Quick post to share what I had on a few days ago, before I head off to do a spot of Christmas shopping (squee!).

This is Revlon Emerald City (one coat), with one coat of China Glaze Winter Holly on top, then a generous coat of Seche Vite to get that shiny smooth goodness. I ADORE China Glaze’s new micro-glitters, but they dry quite textured and I like ’em smooooth as glass. Ami has just reviewed Nail Pattern Boldness’s Glitter Food, and I think I might have to get a bottle!

I’m super happy I picked up Emerald City, it is the perfect underwear for Winter Holly when I can’t be bothered doing 2 or 3 coats of glitter. It made removal a lot easier having the base as well. And they are just the perfect match!

*happy*

Any of you think you’ll be picking up Winter Holly (if you don’t already have it)?

Pst… It feels funny calling this “Winter Green NotD” because we’re just getting into summer here and it’s quite warm today!

Nails and Tea!

15 Nov

Hurrah for random mix of stuff and things. Not too sure where to start… Hmm…

Ooh yes let’s start with the nails I did for my friend on her birthday! These aren’t the best photos, but you can get a basic idea. Please keep in mind that this is only the second time I’ve ever attempted to attack someone else’s nails!

I’m not really sure what these are, it was a design that wasn’t really planned out. It just sorta happened as I was playing with a new striper (LA Colors Silver). Let’s go with fireworks? Yeah. We only put rhinestones on the bottom corners because she uses her hands a lot and we didn’t want rhinestones on the tips!

Bad bad photos, but I’m pretty pleased with the nails! The base colour was China Glaze Want My Bawdy.

Next up I wanna show you what I’ve been getting through these last few days! The above ^^ friend recently went to Sydney and bought me back some teeeea! Because tea shops here are butt and I fell in love with the Tea Centre when we went there last year on our honeymoon. So I gave her a list and some money and begged her to bring me home some tea :3

  • Yorkshire Blend: “Traditional blend of Sri Lankan black tea.”
  • Chai Vanilla: “Black tea, vanilla, cinnamon, liquorice, orange peel, fennel & cardamom.”
  • Glögg: “Black tea with cinnamon, orange peel, almond pieces, ginger pieces, cloves & cardamon.

  • Christmas Tea: “Black tea with almond pieces, orange peel, apple pieces, cornflowers, cinnamon & cloves.”
  • Amaretto: “Black tea with almond essence & finely diced almond pieces. (Marzipan flavour)”
  • Turkish Delight: “A black tea with those sweet flavours of Rose and Vanilla.  This subtly sweet tea can be enjoyed anytime but is especially nice with ‘Afternoon Tea’ or after dinner instead of a dessert and certainly comes with less calories.”

If you’re not drooling by now, I don’t know if we can be friends anymore 😛 So far I’ve tried the Yorkshire Blend, Amaretto, and Glögg. And I have not been disappointed at all! 😀 Om nom nom nom teaaaaa ❤

ANYHOO! Last up is the nails I did on myself the same day I did my friend’s. This started out as basic striper testing before starting her nails, but eventually turned into thiiiis!

They’re like… dragonflies or something :3 Sorry about the tip chips, I took this photo over a day later so they suffered from housework chore syndrome. Still super cute though! Polishes used were China Glaze Liquid Leather, LA Colors Silver striper, and Jordana Star Designer silver glitter striper. And little rhinestones from Born Pretty Store 🙂

And yes, that’s my right hand :3

Yaaaay!

Soooo, anyone in Auckland… I’m open to do your nails if you come visit me and pay me some money 😉

More Christmas Glitter Layering!

13 Nov

Aaaaaaaand I’m back from my little long weekend. I had a good one, I hope you guys did too! I celebrated a dear friend’s birthday and even painted her nails for her! Second time ever doing someone else’s nails :3 I’ll hopefully share those later, we only got two not-so-great photos of them though so we’ll see. We had fun relaxing at the beach with strawberries and cider, then headed back to her house for a gossip-and-wine session with another friend 🙂

Anyway, this is another backlogged glitterbomb from last week when I was on my Christmas glitter kick (still am). This was before I got my China Glaze Holiday Joy haul (still to be shown off), so I was still playing around with Twinkle Lights :3

This is actually more intense than it looks… First I started with one coat of China Glaze’s Hey Sailor, a red creme from the Anchors Away collection. Then I did a coat of Love Marilyn, a red-and-silver glitter. THEN I sponged on a very light amount of Blonde Bombshell (because I LOVE that glitter), and then finally I finished it off with Twinkle Lights.

Phew! My shoddy photos don’t do it justice, it was suuuuuuuper pretty *swoon*

I love glitter so much. It weirds me out when people don’t like glitter! *shifty eyes towards MaSucree* Sparkles are your friend!

Hehe :3

Mode Vicious Venom

9 Nov

First thing to knock off the To-Post-On-The-Blog list is a polish I bought very recently. On Tuesday in fact! I went to visit my lovely MaSucree for lunch on Tuesday (and also to get some books from the library), and we ended up doing the usual shop-trawling to see if anything interesting was around. I ended up buying some Cranberry Joy hand cream from the Body Shop *dribble*, and then when we stopped in at the pharmacy we always stalk I remembered that Lani had shown a photo of a green glitter Mode polish on her Facebook page. I’ve been obsessed with Christmas polish lately and green glitter is PERFECT for Christmas, so I checked to see if they had it… and they did!

This is the AMAZING Mode Vicious Venom, with a sparse coat of China Glaze Golden Enchantment over top to give it a slightly more Christmassy golden holo sparkle. But trust me, Vicious Venom did not really need it!

I’ve got quite a collection of Mode polishes, and have done for quite a while. But I had always passed this one over at the store because in the bottle it looks like it won’t actually be opaque. Boy oh boy was I wrong! Two easy coats for absolute perfection!!!

While I do really love the colour green, I’ve always gravitated towards blues more. MaSu has always been the green polish fiend! But more recently I’ve found myself more and more attracted to greens, possibly because of the current Christmas polish obsession. And FLIP am I glad I picked this up! (Thanks Lani!)

I mean look at that. Just look at it. How could anybody NOT fall in love with that?! I’m completely obsessed with it now, and I think that next week when I pop into town for lunch with MaSu, I’ll be picking up another bottle. Because it’s that beautiful and I see myself using it that often. I have so much polish that I generally never need back ups (except of my black and white Kleancolors that I use most for stamping). So this is a HUGE deal. That is how much I adore this polish.

For serious, if you’re any kind of green, glitter, or Christmas polish fan, you NEED this polish. I don’t know where you can buy it online, but if you’re in New Zealand or Australia they are generally available in pharmacies. I bought this one from Unichem on Queen St (just up from Farmers), but I’ve seen Mode in other pharmacies as well. PLUS they’re only $4.50 NZD. ULTIMATE WIN.

My friend Holly tells me that they’re generally around $2.50 AUD in Australia, and she recalls seeing Mode in Price Line and other pharmacies.

Seriously I can’t stop staring at it. All my other Mode bottles are tucked away in my polish chest, but Vicious Venom gets a place of honour on my desk among my China Glazes and other special polishes.

*swoon*

What do you guys think? Got a hankering now? 😀

-Del x

Pst… Prepare for more Christmassy glitter tomorrow… Deal with it 😉
