Purple and Bronze Watercolour NotD

3 Nov

Today I thought I’d share the nails I wore to a wedding last week! They may seem random and out-of-context, but  rest assured that they matched my outfit perfectly 😀

I did these right after Day 27 of the challenge, so was feeling rather inspired by the sponged-watercolour thing 😀 Since I was wearing a black satin maxi dress with purple and bronzey-gold flowers, I went with a black base with purple and bronzey-gold colours sponged over top.

Polishes used were:

  • China Glaze Liquid Leather (base)
  • Mode Boysenberry
  • Jordana Silky Purple
  • Mode Messed Up
  • Color Club Fashion Addict
  • Kleancolor Americano
  • NYX Girls Buzz Worthy
  • Jordana Lavender Fields
  • Mode Glitzy Glam

That’s a big list!! It makes it seem like these took ages to do, but they really didn’t! They were positively light-speed by my nail art standards.

Here’s a rare view of my right hand, just to show you that I really DO do them both! 😉

*happy sigh* Pretty pretty.

What do you guys think? Something you would wear?

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 29

29 Oct

Supernatural nails. Bleurgh. Considering how many halloween nails I’m seeing everywhere at the moment, I felt decidedly uninspired. I don’t think it helped that I spent the day out and was running low on daylight for photos!

I decided on purple nails with gold stars, inspired by the cliché wizard’s hat. Because magic? I dunno.

The purple is Kleancolor Love Affair, and the stars were done with my gold glitter Jordana striper (called Golden Artist).

A bit boring, but cute in its own way :3

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 28

28 Oct

Squee! Getting so close to the end!

Today’s challenge is ‘inspired by a flag’. Now I dunno about other polish fiends, but since the Olympics resulted in an outright explosion of flag-and-other-patriotic manis, I became a little bit sick of them. I wanted to do something a little different, and as MaSucree said, “A lot more unique!” than a lot of the other flag manis out there.

I decided to spell out ‘flag’ in nautical signal flags!

I did it for the lulz ^_^

I really love the ‘L’ and am keen to do checkered nails again! The ‘F’ was a complete nightmare though. Signal flags are square, so trying to do the diamond really didn’t translate so well >_<

Polishes used were:

  • China Glaze Hey Sailor (red)
  • China Glaze First Mate (blue)
  • China Glaze Liquid Leather (black)
  • Santee Beach Yellow
  • Jordana White / Jordana Pop Art Contemporary White

I still think this was a fun one to do, and I’m happy that I came up with something a little different 😀 I got the inspiration from another Studio Ghibli film, Kokuriko-zaka Karaor From Up on Poppy Hill. The main character raises signal flags every morning in memory of her father.

Til tomorrow~

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 25

25 Oct

Phwoar we are getting so close to the end of this challenge I can practically taste it! I have a few things for you today, starting with something non-related to the challenge but completely exciting.

FLOAM!

My bottle of Floam arrived yesterday from Ninja Polish, and I was so excited that I had to take off my Tamora Pierce nails to try it out! As you may know, I’m on extreeeeemely limited polish-buying privileges at the moment due to my lack of income (le sad), but I snuck this one in when I received a ‘back-in-stock’ email from Ninja Polish. I still don’t know if the Husband has even noticed yet. HA!

Flooooooam!

Anyway, today’s challenge was ‘inspired by fashion’, which really stumped me. I’m not into fashion at all really, so I had to go from my limited knowledge gleaned from general internet-surfing. I noticed a while ago that fishtail braids were everywhere on Tumblr, so figured that was some kind of fashion. So I gave them a go on my nails!

…and then smashed them up and ruined them. They were bumpy as hell anyway, and the pink annoyed me because it just dominated everything. I was terrified that it was going to stain my nails and I’d have pink stripes when I removed it, but luckily I had started with two coats of the silver. Phew! These colours were Kleancolor Pearl Silver, Metallic Aqua and Metallic Fuchsia. Not my favourite mani, next time I think I’ll use thinner and less metallic polishes.

So I took it off and tried to find some different inspiration. My last job was at Overland, a footwear company here in NZ. One major trend I remember from LAST summer’s shoes was colour-blocking, which I quite liked the look of. Plus I like shoes more than clothes. I went hunting online (aka Google Image search), and found these shoes in a colour combo that appealed to me.

I wouldn’t be able to walk in those, but damn if they aren’t beautiful.

As ever, it’s simple and easy for me. And yet I still manage to mess things up >_< I used tape for the pink down the bottom, but didn’t feel like waiting for stuff to dry so free-handed the blue. Hence the uneven-ness. You get the idea though right? Colours were Jordana Pink Lemonade, Jordana Tangy and China Glaze First Mate. I quite like these nails, I think they’re pretty cute, but also bold :3

As a final touch I added a coat of Essie’s Matte About You, since the shoes that inspired them were suede.

Aaaaaand that’s it. That’s what’s on my nails right now.

Fashion is hard -_-‘

Pssst… Shiny or matte?

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 20

20 Oct

Phew, day 20! We are getting there! Woop woop.

Today’s challenge was water-marbling. I’ve done water-marbling before, so the main challenge was choosing colours and not bumping the already-done nails (failed at that one). Now, I could have gone for something subtle, classy, and fancy. But instead I did THIS!

Muahahahahhaa!! Pinks and oranges don’t often get utilised by moi, I gravitate towards blues, greens and browns/nudes. So I thought I’d do something different and bright. I used a white base (it makes the colours pop more), then Jordana Soft Pink, Pink Lemonade, Tangy, and Sweet Orange for the marbling. You can see swatches of all my Jordana polishes here.

They make me think of disco or hippie swirly patterns… I know what I mean >_<

Tomorrow we get into the scary stuff! All the “inspired by” challenges. I’m feeling rather apprehensive.

Jordana Nail Polish Swatches

18 Sep

Today I have a complete butt-tonne of swatches for you! I’ve noticed in the blog search field that we get a lot of hits from people looking for Jordana polish swatches. I had quite a few up on Flickr, but hadn’t shared them directly in a post. Also I’d gotten more since I uploaded those ones! So this post is mega swatch-spam.

I really like Jordana polishes, they go on easily at 2-3 thin coats, have a quite-good dry time for how cheap they are, and best of all they work amazingly for water marbling! Plus here in NZ they are generally sold at $3 a bottle, which is epic. I’ve decided to start with the older photos that were uploaded on Flickr, then I’ll move on to the newer swatches.

Tuxedo Nail Art

2 Sep

Mini-post for everyone today. I’ve been meaning to try these nails for a very long time, but I’m so completely un-co at drawing that I knew I’d stuff up just those tiny bow-ties.

However, I love you and I was bored so I bit the bullet and this happened a few days ago:

These were done with Kleancolor White as base, Jordana Black Mark (liner) for the jacket, then black acrylic paint for the buttons and bow-ties, with China Glaze Ruby Pumps for the red bow. Cute, ne?

I only got one good photo because the Husband has been taking the camera to work with him *shakes fist*

But see what I mean about the bows?! *shakes head* soooo nooby. I can’t draw 😦 I should stick to water-marbling and glittery goodness, yes?

Anyway, hope you enjoy!
