31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 27

27 Oct

Gah ‘inspired by artwork’ was a total nightmare for me. I have zero interest in art, unless it’s by Brian Froud or concerned with Lord of the Rings. So obviously my favourite artists are Brian Froud (love you long time), Alan Lee (who doesn’t seem to have a website I can find), and John Howe. Which is of absolutely no use for this challenge, as I can’t draw for rabbits. (Wait what?)

Sigh.

I went internet trawling for abstract or simple modern art, and found this piece that had pretty colours.

It’s by Nancy Ortenstone, and this one is called Ocean Song. Hey, now that’s art I can get into.

I quickly yanked out a bunch of blues and greens and got going with some sponges!

Okay, no it’s not exactly like the painting. But the whole point of this challenge is to be inspired by the artwork, not to replicate it. Right? Right! This one had to be taken outside in the sun, because no matter how hard I tried inside, my camera kept turning my fingers a terrifying shade of red. Which was not accurate at all O_O

So even though this challenge terrified me, I’m quite happy with how it turned out. Even though I sponge all the time, doing it with so many colours and so haphazardly never would have occurred to me. I’ll definitely do it again! They’re like watercolour nails :3

Anyway, colours used were:

  • China Glaze For Audrey (base colour)
  • Kleancolor Mystic Grass
  • China Glaze Exotic Encounters
  • China Glaze First Mate
  • China Glaze Electric Beat
  • Essie Smooth Sailing
  • Jordana Mint Candy

Then I topcoated it and voila.

That list is in the order I used the polishes 🙂

Until tomorrow!
